Our Olive Harvest: Tree to Table event is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 11th. 10-5pm
We’re super happy to return to Tallgrass Ranch in Sonoma this year with our hosts Nancy and Tony Lily. Nancy and I are members of the California Olive Oil Council’s sensory panel and she has over 20 years of sensory experience and knowledge of the California olive oil industry. She and her husband love working their land. The views are amazing!
This is a very exciting time in the olive oil world. We’re birthing the oil from the fruit that’s been tenderly cared for throughout the year. We celebrate its arrival! Welcome Olio Nuovo! (new oil)
The day begins in Sonoma (not far from Sears Point Raceway) at 10 am at Tallgrass Olive Ranch with hot coffee and tea, homemade muffins (or olive oil cake or apple galette:), fresh fruit, organic granola and yogurt. We learn from Nancy about their land, their trees, how to pick olives, what to look for, and what to throw away. It’s a fun time and beautiful watching the fog unveil the valley below.
We’ll visit the mill next and learn how olives turn into olive oil and the importance of handling, milling process, and time. We’ll finish up with a late lunch nearby at a lovely winery which includes wine tasting and a tour of the historic grounds.
Harvesting olives is not a strenuous activity; however, the ground is uneven and the weather is always a bit unpredictable.
